Great Season!

I really want to thank Heather Leclair for a wonderful job with our home jamboree.  I also want to thank all of our sponsors including, American Bank, Bruin Construction, Target, Twisted Metals, T&T Designs, and Problast.  I want to thank all of our dedicated coaches, and all of our hockey families for supporting your kids, driving them around in terrible weather, and keeping their skates sharp and sticks taped.

This was a great year and our program will continue to grow and develop with these wonderful kids!  They were truly a pleasure to coach!

There may be some additional opportunities in early March, but they will mainly be outdoor stuff for the oldest kids.

A lot of people ask me what their kids should be doing in the offseason, my simple answer is they should be having fun and trying other sports.  I do not think it is wrong to throw in a week or two of summer ice or a powerskating clinic but at this age, the best thing they can do is develop their overall athleticism, both physically and mentally.  Playing multiple sports, or even just playing tag in the yard is where its at!

I will attach a list of offseason activities that I find particularly intriguing, as well as some affordable summer camps/clinics.  If you have something you want posted, email me and I can add it.

I will also attach a list of some fun summer activities that are good if they are "bored" when school is out.

Welcome to the 2018-19 GRG Lightning 8u season

Hello all,

My name is Jeremy Carlson and I will be helping to coordinate and coach the 8u/6u girls this season.  We will have 10-12 talented coaches who will all work together to make sure we have enough people at each practice to give us the flexibility to work in small groups.  If you are interested in coaching there is always room for more!  Please send me an email at jeremy.carlson2625@gmail with any questions.

A huge thanks to Todd Yost and Bruin Construction as well as Beth Hyduke and American Bank for sponsoring our team!

Our first practice is Sunday Oct 21st at 10:40 am.

We will have a parents meeting within a week or two of the season starting, once we have coaches finalized.

We have a great group of 46 girls this year!  Thanks for encouraging your girls to play hockey!  We still have room for more though, if they have any friends that are still thinking about playing encourage them to sign up, there is no late fee for 8u/6u hockey.

In general we will practice on Wednesdays, usually alternating between the 440, 520, 600 time slots.  We will also practice once per weekend. This is all based on ice availability however, so until we get two rinks up and running it is difficult to get a set schedule. Our oldest girls will also have the opportunity to skate on Mondays on the outdoor pavilion once that rink is frozen.  All practices and events are optional and our goal is first and foremost fun, as we help them to advance their skills.

We will have scrimmages against the boys intermediates on Wednesdays about once per month and will also play the Hibbing girls a few times.  We will have a couple of one day jamborees, these are not finalized yet but in years past we have done a combination of Hibbing, Brainerd and Duluth.  Towards the end of the season we will have a home jamboree and invite 4-5 teams to come play us.
